CNS-Targeted LNP Delivery for mRNA and siRNA: From BBB Penetration to Cell-Type Specific Gene Control
Abstract
Lipid nanoparticle (LNP)-mediated delivery of mRNA and siRNA has emerged as a transformative approach in neuroscience research and therapeutic development.
Despite the inherent challenges of crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and achieving cell-type-specific delivery within the central nervous system (CNS), recent advances in ionizable lipid chemistry, surface engineering, and targeted LNP formulations have demonstrated promising efficacy in preclinical models of neurodegeneration, rare genetic disorders, and neuroinflammation.
In this webinar, we will review the current landscape of CNS-targeted LNP delivery, drawing from recent high-impact publications to explore how non-viral strategies are overcoming the BBB and enabling precise gene modulation across distinct CNS cell populations — including neurons, astrocytes, and microglia.
The session will also introduce PackGene's end-to-end LNP manufacturing and formulation capabilities, including encapsulation and analytical characterization services, tailored to support neuroscience researchers from discovery to IND-enabling studies.
By attending this webinar, you will gain insights into:
Practical strategies for BBB penetration — What ionizable lipid and surface engineering approaches are showing the most promise in preclinical models, and what challenges remain.
Targeting specific CNS cell types — How to design LNP formulations that selectively transfect neurons, astrocytes, or microglia, and why cell-type specificity matters for therapeutic outcomes.
Translational considerations — How findings from neurodegeneration, rare genetic disorder, and neuroinflammation models inform the path from discovery research to IND-enabling studies.
PackGene's LNP platform in practice — A closer look at how PackGene's encapsulation and analytical characterization services can accelerate your CNS research pipeline.
